Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch

Challenge – Housing a large amount of entertainment services in one space
Solution – Hercules Truss Arch Building
Size – 70′ wide x 160′ long
Application – Housing for a top Roadside attraction in America

Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch is a third generation family owned ostrich ranch in Picacho Peak, Arizona. The ranch houses a large variety of animals, including ostriches, donkeys, goats, deer, ducks, bunnies and rainbow lorikeets.

Since their public opening in 1999, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch has transformed into a giant Agritourism entertainment business. Voted one of the Best Roadside Attractions in America, the ranch has gotten plenty of national exposure and has even been featured on multiple TV shows, like “Larry the Cable Guy,” “Chef vs. City” and “Extreme Roadside Attractions”.

When the family decided to add more activities to their ranch, it was determined the most practical solution would be to house them under one structure. Rooster Cogburn decided to purchase a 73′ wide by 160′ long Hercules Truss Arch Building that now houses their two monster trucks, shooting gallery, stingray feeding tank, gift store and picnic area.

Danna Cogburn, co-owner of the ranch, stated, “ClearSpan was the clear choice for us.”

One of the main reasons the ranch wanted a big ClearSpan building was to store their two famous monster trucks. The trucks were originally kept in a hay barn, but the staff wanted them in direct view of their customers. The trucks are used to take people on tours throughout the ranch and surrounding mountains.

“We go four-wheeling, ostrich ‘fishing’ and do lots of fun activities for all ages,” Cogburn said.

After the ClearSpan structure was complete, business increased right away. Cogburn explained, “Since we’ve opened this building, it’s been such an eye-grabbing attention getter right here on interstate 10. It’s made people stop and look at us a little more. It’s been a great asset to our ranch, and it’s really helped our business go to a new level.”

The building has also improved the environment for the animals and staff. “Once we got inside the building, it’s made our business so much nicer. We’re out of the elements, out of the dust and wind, and it’s so much cooler during the hot Arizona summers.”

Overall, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch has had a great experience with their building and with the employees at ClearSpan. Danna stated, “ClearSpan has been easy and wonderful to work with”.
