ClearSpan to Sponsor Undercard Race at Preakness Day

May 15, 2018

ClearSpan Fabric Structures is happy to announce that they will be sponsoring the Chick Lang Stakes on Preakness Stakes Day, which will be held on May 19 at Pimlico Race Course. ClearSpan representatives will be in attendance to hand out awards following the race, as well as to answer any equine building questions.

The Preakness Stakes is the middle jewel in the Triple Crown, and one of the most important races of the year. This year marks the 143rd running of the race, and $1.5 million is up for grabs.

While ClearSpan doesn’t quite have the longevity of the Preakness Stakes, they have been serving the horse racing and equine community for nearly 40 years. Their buildings provide a spook-free environment that is ideal for both the horse and rider. The ClearSpan product line features a wide range of building profiles, all of which can be customized to meet any training, boarding or racing needs.

Business owners also appreciate ClearSpan’s designs, which boast energy-efficient and money-saving designs. The fabric cover on these buildings allows natural light to filter through, creating a well-lit environment that completely eliminates the need for artificial lighting during the day. On top of that, the covers are also climate sensitive, creating an environment that is warmer during the winter and cooler in the summer.

The Chick Lang Stakes is one of the 13 additional races on the Preakness Stakes Day undercard. It is a six furlong sprint that carries a purse of $100,000.

The race is named after the former president and general manager of the Maryland Jockey Club, Charles John (Chick) Lang. Lang, who is affectionately referred to as Mr. Preakness, was an essential part of promoting the Preakness Stakes, allowing it to grow into the highly regarded race that it is today. Lang was also the first to open the infield to spectators when in 1965 he brought in a busload of his daughter’s friends to watch the races. The Preakness – and horse racing as a whole – has embraced the use of the infield, and today, the Preakness holds the Budweiser Infield Fest, which is a must-attend event for young men and women.
